[About Bizen Ware & Bizen Pottery Festival]Recently, I visited the Bizen Pottery Festival held in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture—the birthplace of Bizen ware. Bizen ware is crafted using an unglazed technique called Muyu (no artificial glaze applied). Unique patterns (Yohen, or kiln changes) are naturally created depending on the position inside the kiln and how the flames hit the piece. These distinct markings cannot be fully controlled even by master craftsmen; they are true works of art born from nature itself.
[Item Description]This Japanese Sake Bottle (Tokkuri) was crafted by Izuru Yamamoto, a designated Important Intangible Cultural Property Holder of Okayama Prefecture.
It features a rich brown base accenting dark natural sesame-like glaze (Kuro-Goma). Striking, sharp lines resembling pampas grass or lightning cut elegantly through the surface, giving it a remarkably refined and sophisticated appearance.
Originally sold for over $500, this piece is now offered at a special discount price. In addition to serving sake, this versatile Tokkuri can also be used as a stylish single-flower vase (Ichirinzashi).
