James Clark Ross SIGNED AUTOGRAPH Letter Polar, Arctic & Antarctic explorer 1847 For Sale

Brief letter signed by polar explorer James Clark Ross (1800-1862) to Francis Rumell, apparently complying with an autograph request. Single sheet, 7" x 4.5", docketed to reverse. Sent from Ashton House in Aylsebury on June 21, 1847, shortly before Ross would embark on an Arctic journey in search of the lost Franklin Expedition. Having achieved fame and success for his command of the Antarctic Ross Expedition of 1839-1843, Ross would go on to be enlisted as a senior figure in the efforts to locate the missing Franklin Expedition. In January 1848 Ross departed England for the Arctic as commander of the HMS Enterprise and HMS Investigator.
