Up for sale is a document that is signed and has a seal with JAMES MCDOWELL, ESQUIRE and GOVERNOR OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA. He served in the Virginia House of Delegates 1830-1835 and again in 1838. Governor of Virginia 1843-1846. House of Representatives 1846 until his death in 1851. He represented Virginia's 11th District. Key figure for the founding of VMI.
