This authentic Dan Deangle mask (also known as a Tankagle) originates from the Ivory Coast/Liberia region of West Africa. Hand-carved from a single block of indigenous hardwood, it features the classic high-domed forehead, slit \"eyes of the forest,\" and a prominent nose above a diamond-shaped mouth.
The mask is finished with a traditional dark patina that shows beautiful brown highlights from natural aging. It remains \"dressed\" in its original hand-woven raffia headdress, which has aged to a rich, multi-tonal tan. The interior shows clear hand-tooling marks and a small white kaolin clay ritual mark, consistent with traditional West African ceremonial preparation.
