Offered for sale is a custom handmade IRBI fixed-blade hunting knife, made by Irvin Campbell of Seward, Alaska USA, probably circa 1980s. IRBI stands for \"I\'d rather be independent.\" IRBI has been in business since 1971 and Irvin Campbell stopped making knives in 1990. The company has been run since then by his family members, Virgil, Dawn and Hunter. This knife features a high carbon steel trailing-point blade with a mirror polished finish and a visible temper line (hard to see in the photographs),a brass singlehilt and butt cap, hidden tang construction, and elk horn handle scales. The blade is differentially heat treated, in that the cutting edge is hardened to improve edge holding ability while the rest of the blade has a more resilient temper to resist fracturing if bent. The blade is 4-1/4\" long and approximately 3/32\" thick at the hilt. Overall length is 8-1/2\". This knife is the perfect size for general outdoor and camp use, and would also make an excellent work knife. It is light enough for everyday carry, yet tough enough for most outdoor and work tasks. The blade is tang stamped \"IRBI, Irvin Campbell, Seaward, Alaska\" lengthwise on the blade.The knife is inexcellent condition overall. The blade appears to be unsharpened. The handle is in excellent condition. The fit and finish is superb. The knife includes a high quality aftermarket leather sheath.
