MAKERBlade is clearly marked \"Gebr. Heller / Marienthal\" on the ricasso.Gebrüder Heller was a Thuringian contract cutler based in Marienthal beiSchweina, supplying bayonets during the Imperial German period.
SAWBACK BLADEFull saw-tooth spine — the feature that sets this apart from the much morecommon straight-edge 84/98. Sawback bayonets were issued to pioneers, NCOs,and specialist troops as a combination tool/weapon. Germany withdrewsawback bayonets from frontline combat issue in 1917, so this example wasmade and most likely saw service before that.
MARKINGS- Crossguard: unit/property number \"K.1834\"- Frog stud: crown-over-Gothic-letter Imperial acceptance/inspection stamp — the standard German military inspector\'s mark used circa 1910–1919, each assigned to an individual government inspector- No numbers on scabbard. Small letter H at tip of scabbard.
AGE / PERIODImperial Germany, most consistent with manufacture and service in the1900s–1917 range. No full date stamp or Imperial arsenal proof is presenton the spine — this is not unusual for Gebr. Heller production, severalexamples of which appear to be contract pieces made for individual Germanstate contingents rather than run through the main Prussian arsenalinspection pipeline.
