LARGE VINTAGE AMERICAN RED CROSS MEMORABILIA COLLECTIONI don't know anything about these items. This collection was acquired together and is being offered as one complete historical grouping. PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS! I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS IMPORTANT IN THIS TYPE OF COLLECTION TO COLLECTORS!!!
Exceptional estate-found American Red Cross collection featuring a large assortment of pins, badges, textiles, volunteer insignia, blood donor awards, patch, and an original Johnson & Johnson WPA first aid kit with some contents.
Included are:
Johnson & Johnson W.P.A. First Aid Kit No. 16
Large assortment of American Red Cross pins and badges including dated service pins 1919, 1920, and 1936
Volunteer service insignia
Blood donor and service awards
Modern Health Crusader pins
School and youth-related Red Cross awards
American Red Cross embroidered patch
Christmas seals and related ephemera
Additional Red Cross memorabilia shownSeveral pieces are marked by well-known makers including Whitehead & Hoag and Bastian Bros. Two larger pieces are sterling silver marked.
Also included are Red Cross textiles. I don't know what these are. At first, I thought two of them were aprons, but the ties on each are wayto short to fit around someone. They are made of a thin muslin/gauze type material, and the Red Cross emblems are unusual as they appear hand-stitched on a piece of fabric and then the fabric hand-stitched onto the textile.I took them out of their bag only to photograph them.I have not tried to wash or clean them and as the pictures show, they do have yellowing and staining and have apparently been folded away fordecades.
This is a wonderful collection for collectors of:
American Red Cross history
Nursing and medical memorabilia
Public health history
World War I and World War II home-front collecting
Fraternal and service organization memorabilia
Condition varies from piece to piece. Typical age-related wear, handling marks, oxidation, and fabric aging are present. Please review all photographs carefully as they are part of the description and show the exact items included.
