Martinka Template Houdini\'s History of Magic in Boston
Most people remember Houdini as the great escape artist, but he was also a serious student and collector of magic history, and this book offers a fascinating look at that side of him.
In 1918, Houdini commissioned H.J. Moulton to research the history of magic and related entertainments in Boston from 1792 to 1915. Even better, the correspondence between Houdini and Moulton is reproduced in the introduction, so you can follow the project as it developed.
The manuscript was preserved by Milbourne Christopher, who made it available in this facsimile edition, illustrated with rare theatrical playbills from his collection. I had the opportunity to sale a large portion of Christopher\'s collection in 2011, so this material has a particular interest for me.
It\'s a wonderful record of performers who helped shape the history of magic, from Blitz and Anderson to the Herrmanns, Kellar, Thurston, and Houdini.
See you on the next one, Ted
