An original early real photographic postcard featuring Herbert George Ponting’s celebrated image, “Terra Nova at the Ice Foot, Cape Evans.”
Ponting photographed the expedition ship Terra Nova tethered beside the towering ice at Cape Evans on 16 January 1911. He served as the official photographer and cinematographer for Captain Robert Falcon Scott’s British Antarctic Expedition of 1910 to 1913.
The reverse is printed “Post Card, Correspondence, Address Only” with the early Kodak Austral stamp box. This particular Kodak format dates from approximately 1908 to 1914, indicating that the postcard was likely produced around 1913 or 1914 following the expedition.
This is a genuine period real photographic postcard, produced photographically on Kodak paper rather than as a later printed reproduction. The postcard is unused and displays age related surface wear, light marks and gentle curvature as shown.
A historically important image from one of the most famous expeditions of the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration.
