Vintage RPPC – Headingley Line, Winnipeg Street Railway, Headingley, Manitoba
Real photo postcard captioned \"Headingley Line Wpg St Ry.\" in the negative, showing the front of a streetcar with a \"C.P.R. Station\" destination sign in the end window, a slatted fender, and the trolley pole raised to the overhead wire. Four men pose with the car in heavy winter coats: two uniformed crewmen in badged caps, one of them standing beside the car with a hand on the grab rail, a mustached man in a derby and long overcoat, and a man in a flat cap and overcoat. The image is framed by a broad, irregular white border. Handwritten on the back: \"Headingley, Manitoba, just west of Winnipeg.\" Unused/unposted. Canadian AZO paper marked \"Made in Canada,\" with squares in the stamp box corners, circa 1924–1949. The Headingley line was built by the Suburban Rapid Transit Company, a Winnipeg Electric Railway subsidiary, and completed in 1905. It ran west from Winnipeg to Headingley with hourly service to the C.P.R. station, and rail service ended in 1930. A great piece for collectors of Headingley and Manitoba topographical postcards, Winnipeg streetcar history, or Canadian interurban railways.
