THE HANDLE OF THE SPADE HAS BEEN ROLLED FOR SHIPPING

TO YOU. CAREFULLY UNROLL IT.

The design of the original Missing Spade was based on the garden spade most commonly used in my

country New Zealand. This has a rectangular blade. There are several styles of spades available in the

hardware stores and the spade you have purchased is slightly different from the one shown in the

instructions. It works exactly the same, so to save on costs the photos have not been re-done.

WHEN ROLLING THE BLADE OF THIS MODEL IT IS BEST TO ROLL THE BLADE ONLY

ONCE. WHEN THE TUBE HANDLE IS ROLLED AS FAR AS THE "I" CONNECTOR, GRASP

THE HANDLE AND "T" TOGETHER AND ROLL ONCE MORE. THIS WILL BRING THEHANDLE INSIDE THE FOLDED BLADE.ROLLED BANNER WILL NOT SHOW THESPADEFROM THE FRONTANDTHE DEPTH OF THE PACKAGENO ONE WILL SUPECT IT CONTAINS A SPADE.

The round end spade has only one metal strip connector and cannot be stood upright resting on the

blade without bending the blade. You can tum the spade over and stand it up resting on the plastic "D"

handle. I prefer to have it taken away by an assistant or placed into my well table so that only the top of

the handle shows.

When performing close to an audience I have a box nearby to place the spade into straight after the

production. The box has a handle and doubles as a carry case.

I often finish my act with the spade routine and exit with the spade held high.

I place the spade backstage or into it's box and return for a curtain call.

REGAIN THE 'MEMORY' OF THE ORIGINAL TIGHT TUBE SHAPE

WE SUGGEST YOU BIND IT WITH RUBBER BANDS AND LEAVE IT

FOR 24 HOURS BEFORE THE FIRST PERFORMANCE

ALWAYS STORE THE SPADE IN ITS OPEN CONDITION

DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO PLAY WITH THIS PROP WHO IS NOT

FULLY CONVERSANT WITH ITS USE.

ALTERNATIVE PRODUCTION---If you do not want to use the card prediction routine, roll the

spade up in a plain black cloth. Allow the cloth to unroll and produce the spade. During the

audience reaction to such an unusual item being produced, take the opportunity of stealing

another item under cover of the cloth. This could be anything from a bottle to a cage of birds.
