Really nice piece. Gold on and interlaced in white quartz. Total weight of the piece is 2.0 grams. The gold pretty well covers one side, runs throughout the piece and is also on the other side, but not quite as heavy. The quartz is a nice bright white providing a really cool contrast between the gold and the quartz. Nice specimen showing what gold looks like in the native quartz. Once gold erodes out of the vein the weather and water will flatten all the edges off of it. You can see from the pictures this is a very crystalline piece with a lot of rough edges - a long way from being a flattened out piece of placer. Specimens make nice collectibles because each one is different. This piece comes from Sierra County, California. It was found last July as part of a larger chunk from a decomposed vein. The vein produced some really nice pieces. Sierra County is the heart of the old Gold Rush, own a piece of the Gold Rush - real gold.
About the pictures. The pictures are taken of all sides so you can see where gold is, and isn\'t. A lot of the pictures have a dime for reference this is to provide you with the actual size of the piece. I try to take pictures both inside and outside because there is a color difference between the two. The best way to describe the color is \"shiny gold.\" The closeups are meant to provide you the detail you need to make a decision. They provide all angles and I always try to show where gold is - and isn\'t. The pictures are not meant to make the piece look bigger than it is, that\'s what the dime is for.
About the gold. The weight provided is for the total piece - the quartz and the gold. This is a specimen piece - not bullion. It is a collectible mineral sample. I provide the total weight of the piece, the weight of the gold will be less than the total weight.
About buying gold. Gold is very valuable. A little bit of gold is worth a lot of money. Currently gold is around $135 a gram. The pieces are shown next to the dime to show actual size. If you are a first time gold buyer please look carefully at the pictures.
