- “GENERAL SOCIETY OF THE WAR OF 1812“ -- SEVEN Appointments as Society Officer (1910 – 28) -- Naming HARVARD Dr. Reynold Webb Wilcox as VP -

“General Society of the War of 1812” was founded in 1854 by a large contingent (over 1,500 vets) of War of 1812 veterans who met in Philadelphia to demonstrate the need for an organization of mutual support and to perpetuate the history of the War of 1812. From this convention, the Society of the War of 1812 was created as the preeminent group for War of 1812 vets. On January 8, 1891, the Society elected John Cadwalader of Philadelphia as its first non-veteran President and the following year the Society was incorporated. Over time, the Society began chartering State Societies throughout the United States and started accepting sons and grandsons of Veteran members.

This sale consists of SEVEN individual documents from the ”GENERAL SOCIETY OF THE WAR OF 1812 - ALL relating to HARVARD Medical School GRADUATE Dr. Reynold W. Wilcox, who was elected as an OFFICER (Vice-President) in the Society on SEVEN different occasions.

All SEVEN documents are partly-printed on the “General Society of the War of 1812” (Philadelphia, PA) stationary with the colorful, embossed MEDAL of the SOCIETY prominently pictured along the top. EACH of these SEVEN documents was issued at the BIENNIAL (every two years) MEETINGS (8TH thru 13TH and 15TH) of the “General Society of the War of 1812”. These Society meetings were also held at various locations every two years, and EACH of these APPOINTMENTS were SIGNED in ink at the conclusion by the Society’s then current “SECRETARY GENERAL”, who served during the two year period between the Society’s BIENNIAL meetings.

All of these APPOINTMENTS notify Dr. Wilcox that he has been elected “Vice-President General” of the Society, and they are dated as follows – June 25th 1910 (at Plattsburgh, New York), October 12th 1912 (at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), September 12th 1914 (at Baltimore, Maryland), September 16th 1916 (at Boston, Massachusetts), June 12th 1920 (at Washington, D.C.), October 7th 1922 (at New York, New York), and September 12th 1928 (at Baltimore, Maryland).

REYNOLD WEBB WILCOX (1856 - 1931) was a noted, New York City physician and a successful medical educator / writer. An 1881 graduate of Harvard Medical School, Wilcox was appointed a professor of medicine at the New York Post-Graduate Medical School and Hospital (1886 – 1908). He was a Major in the U. S. Medical Reserve Corps in 1917 at Fort Oglethorpe (Georgia) and was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in 1924. Reynold W. Wilcox was a “PRESIDENT” of the following organizations – the American Therapeutic Society (1901 – 02), the American College of Physicians (1915 – 21), and the Harvard Medical Society (1894 – 95).

CONDITION: the SEVEN documents EACH measure around 8 ½ x 10 7/8 inches in size and are in EXCELLENT condition overall with some minor creasing on a few of the documents. There are NO folds, rips or tears with the exception of the 1922 document, which has a one inch tear along the right border. Otherwise, NO other issues to note (see scans).

Packages are shipped out within 1 – 3 business days, but typically the next day. Please understand, we do not make any money on shipping costs, but rather run a deficit over the course of a year. Most buyers don’t realize that charges me a 13.6 percent FEE on the item sold, an additional 13.6 percent FEE on my quoted shipping charges, and another 13.6 percent FEE on the sales tax that collects on the item. Everything we sell is packaged with the utmost care. Please read my response over the last 25 years. The comments are often – the best packaging I have ever seen or “bullet proof” packaging. We do NOT offer returns for one simple reason. In the past, I have had some buyers purchase items from me and then proceed to shop them around during the return period to try and make a fast profit, without any financial risk. After they were unsuccessful, they returned the item to me. This information, however, made it back to me from different people I know who were directly offered my item immediately after I had sold it and before it was returned to me for a refund. offer with confidence! You will receive the exact item pictured and in the same condition as described in my listing.
