Offered is a group of engravings used in advertising Dr James Caleb Jackson\'s Grainlet cereal (formerly Granula which had been invented by him in 1863). It was the first dry breakfast cereal on the market and his sweetened cereal had children and their health as a special target. Hence the appealing, charming, and relatable childhood vignettes featured in the engravings .... what the adults were supposed to read was on the back of the pictures. And the Good Dr promoted and instructed heavily and with detail. The ads were placed in his publication:The American Water Cure Journal and Health Reform Magazine. (I\'m wondering how folks got their hands on that magazine?!)He even tasked the readers with making sure their grocers carried the cereal and if they didn\'t, letting the company know by mail and \"we\'ll supply you or tell you how to get it\".
The name change likely came about in response to Dr John Kellogg, in bad faith, naming his own dry cereal, which came out at least a decade after Granula, the same thing even as the name \"Granula\" was trademarked by Jackson. Kellogg ultimately came up with \"Granola\" as a substitute and Granula was changed to Grainlet so there would be no mistake as to which product the customer was getting.
Grainlet Advertising is Rare .... historic documentation almost exclusively refers to the original.Granula.
