I sourced these unique golden selenite specimens from a small independent miner in Nevada. These are super high quality with vibrant golden color throughout most of the stone. So many of the others sold out there are mostly clear with only a little bit of the golden color.

MINERAL DESCRIPTION

The golden color is the result of iron oxide impurities in the selenite when the crystals were forming. Selenite is the colorless and transparent variety of gypsum that shows a pearl like luster and has been described as having a moon like glow. The word selenite comes from the Greek for Moon and means moon rock.Selenite is one of the four varieties of the mineral gypsum and is a common, rock-forming mineral, with thick, extensive beds formed by the evaporation of extremely saline waters. Non-toxic to animals as well as people, gypsum is safe to use in housing. It is used in drywall and the yard and garden, where it may be used to condition soil. It is White, colorless or gray, but can also be shades of red, brown and yellow. The crystals can also be quite large. Selenite is a natural insulator, feeling warm to the touch when compared to a more ordinary rock or quartz crystal. Sheets of clear crystals can be easily peeled from a larger specimen.
