GE 7-2500A FM/AM Radio Professionally Repaired Works Excellent Vintage 1979This radio is electronically restored. It works like when it was made and is in good condition. For a detailed description of the radio and the work done, please continue reading:Initial inspection:
One of my favorite radios… this radio came to me 10-202-2026. It needed to be cleaned and its dial glass needed to be polished. I tried to install a battery but its connector was damaged. I connected to my power supply and the radio worked good.Research:
Radiomuseum says this radio was made in 1979. It is an IC radio, so that is probably about right. One feature I like to mention regarding this model is its HUGE internal tuning dial. Tuned up and working properly this model is really easy to zero in on stations.Repair:
I took the radio apart and replaced the five electrolytic capacitors this radio uses. Even though the radio seemed to work good when I first tested it, with new ones installed, the radio became louder and clearer. It was time. I tested the old ones: 2x or 3x their rated values.Next I soldered in a new battery connector, applied a little deox to its volume control and band switch, checked its earphone jack, etc.Its tuner dial reinstalled, locking its retaining screw, I put the radio back together and checked its alignment: a small tweak to its AM antenna.I like Novus products. Using Novus #3 scratch remover, I polished its dial glass. The scratches are gone. Once removed, using Novus #2 I finished and sealed the now crystal clear dial glass. (I’m happy)And… I cleaned its cabinet. It is as nice as I am able. The radio was done. Here how it tested:Performance:
Volume control goes smoothly from totally silent to overload loud. For strong local stations it produces a sound that is Clean and Clear. It is sensitive. I tested both bandsAM = Excellent. I found my favorite super-weak radio station KEJB (402 miles away). No problem. Lots and lots of AM stations.FM = Excellent. It tuned all the FM stations in my area with ease and they sounded good.Condition:
No Chips. No Cracks. There was nothing I could do for the scratches in its chrome trim. Please see my photos.Collector Quality:
Big fat “F” for its condition. This radio is a one to use. It sounds good, tunes super easy, and has excellent AM sensitivity. This really is one of my favorite models.-----I usually service the vintage radios I sell on . Serviced = I clean the volume control, check the radio’s alignment, and check its current draw.
