This is a hand plane “Kanna” acombination of Japanese vintage blade & New wood Dai.
百錬/ Hyakuren（Size: 72mm, Sum/寸-8）,Vintage Original, New-Dai.
- Blade: 65mm Wide (lower) x102mm Tall,Blue Steal, used.
The blade was manufactured by blacksmith Sadahiro Chiyozuru (Probably the 3rd generation)in Miki city.
The blade was cleaned, disinfected and removed the rust. - Chip-breaker:57mm Wide x 54mm Tall, used.
- Wood Bottom Dai: 83mm Wide x 289mm Length x 35mm Thickness, NEW,
Since the Dai is new, the gap of the blade mouse is very narrow when the cutting edge is exposed.
The surface of the Dai-sole is tuned in two-point touch.
In my video, I performed planing a SPF wood timber. Wood shavings leapedout from the Kanna were very thin as a stocking net.
You may think that the price is alittle high. You can buy a used, unmaintained Kanna around $30 to $50 onthe ,but if you don't have much experience with Kanna, maintaining itso that it can be used properly will not work even if you spend days doing itproperly.It is generally said that even a carpenter needs fiveyears to become proficient with a plane, and it is the most difficult toolamong carpentry tools.
To improve your Kanna skills, itis essential to first use a plane that has been fully maintained for immediateuse.
I think that the price is worththe time and effort of maintenance.In particular, the superiority ofJapanese Kanna is more evident with a new base.
