Traditional Fulani khasa or kaasa wedding blanket from West Africa.
This substantial handwoven textile features a natural cream and ivory ground decorated with black, burgundy red, and ochre geometric stripes and motifs.
Approximate measurements:
51 inches wide × 81 inches long
The blanket was made using traditional strip woven construction. Multiple narrow panels were woven separately and then hand sewn together selvedge-to-selvedge. The visible joining stitches, knots, short yarn ends, and minor irregularities along these seams are intentional characteristics of the handmade construction, not fraying or damage.
Very good preowned condition. No obvious holes or panel separation are visible. Natural surface fibers, handmade variations, and fringe irregularity are present.
Please review all photographs for exact condition.
There is no maker or fiber content label. However, traditional khasa blankets are generally made from wool, sometimes combined with cotton, but the exact fiber content, age, and specific country of production has not been independently verified.
Suitable for use or display as a blanket, bed or sofa layer, wall textile, or collectible example of West African weaving.
