A rare complete set of Fujihiro (藤廣) bench chisels, hand-forged by a master craftsman in Niigata Prefecture — a region with a deep and distinguished tradition in Japanese blade-making. Each chisel is forged from Blue Paper Steel (Aogami / 青紙鋼), prized among professional woodworkers for its exceptional edge retention, toughness, and capacity to take a razor-sharp finish. The handles are turned from Japanese Boxwood (Tsuge / 椿材), a dense premium hardwood celebrated for its fine-grained texture and warm yellow tone — among the most refined handle materials in traditional Japanese toolmaking. This five-piece set has been discontinued and is no longer in production, making it a significant find on the current market.

Setup Required Important — Not Ready to Use Out of the Box

Like all traditional Japanese bench chisels, each chisel in this set requires initial setup before professional use:

• Hoop Seating (Katsura-uchi): The metal ferrule on each handle must be properly seated before first use to prevent splitting under mallet work.
• Initial Sharpening: Each blade requires sharpening and back preparation (ura-dashi / ura-oshi) before use. The backs must be lapped flat on a whetstone.
• Carbon Steel Care: Aogami is high-carbon steel and will rust if left damp. Wipe dry after each use and apply a light coat of oil before storage.
• Experience Recommended: These tools are intended for users familiar with the setup and maintenance of traditional Japanese woodworking chisels.

• 04 Carbon Steel Care Blue Paper Steel (Aogami) is high-carbon steel with no rust resistance. Wipe all blades dry immediately after use. Apply a light coat of camellia oil or similar before storage. Never leave in contact with moisture or acidic materials.
