France: Silver & Bronze Verdun Table Medals by Vernier1917 with an original leather pouch. 1) Scarce silver Verdun table medal, designedby Emile Seraphin Vernier in 1917, to commemorate the epic battle of Verdun, 21 February 1916 to 18 December 1916. This design is the same as the commonbronze ca. 27 mm Verdun medal by Vernier that is suspended on a ribbon. Themedal is 35 mm in diameter; marked with the Monnaie de Paris “cornucopia“ mint mark and “ARGENT” on the edge; theobverse is engraver-marked “S.E. VERNIER 1917.” The medal is in near extremelyfine condition; it should be noted that the Vernier Verdun medals were struckwith a shallow relief. The medal comes with the original leather pouch ofissue, impressed “VERDUN.” 2) Bronze Verdun table medal designed by E. S.Vernier, and otherwise identical to the above-described silver medal. The medalis 35 mm in diameter; marked with the Monnaiede Paris “cornucopia“ mint mark and “BRONZE” on the edge; the obverse isengraver-marked “S.E. VERNIER 1917.” The medal is in near extremely finecondition; it should be noted that the Vernier Verdun medals were struck with ashallow relief.
