📌 DESCRIPTION

This official United States Army Garrison Fort Lewis Coin of Excellence challenge coin represents one of the installation’s senior leadership recognition formats. Presented by the Commander and Command Sergeant Major (CSM), these coins are associated with exceptional performance, leadership recognition, notable contributions, and distinguished service within the organization. For collectors, the Coin of Excellence designation places this piece well above typical installation or souvenir-style challenge coin production.

The obverse showcases the historic Fort Lewis stone entrance gate framed by evergreen trees, a waving American flag, and the snow-capped peak of Mount Rainier. These iconic elements capture the identity, heritage, and geographic character of Fort Lewis while creating a visually striking design immediately recognizable to those familiar with the installation.

The reverse centers on the prestigious Coin of Excellence theme. A spread-wing American eagle inspired by the Great Seal symbolizes strength, readiness, and national service. Beneath the eagle is the distinctive Command Sergeant Major rank insignia, while the surrounding inscription identifies the coin as being Presented by the Commander & CSM, reinforcing its senior leadership recognition purpose.

Command-level presentation coins remain highly desirable among Army installation collectors, leadership coin collectors, and those with connections to Fort Lewis and today’s Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM). The combination of the Coin of Excellence designation, Commander & CSM presentation format, iconic Fort Lewis imagery, and large 2-inch format gives this piece advanced collector appeal, strong display presence, and recognition value beyond typical installation challenge coins.
