As you can see from the pictures, this is an amazing authentic, very rare double-headed birdstone.
It is made from a beautiful Cream/black stone, perhaps Granodiorite.
Wonderful patina and age. It has many features in addition to the double head which makes it rarer.
Base is rectangular, and incurvate on bottom.Base drilled from top and bottom.
Eyes are elliptical buttons.
As is typical with the double headed type each head is a slightly different shape and size.
The heartland of doubleheaded birdstones is Michigan, consistent with this material.
I believe they are from the Hopewell Culture that expanded from Illinois to Southwest Michigan.

A friend recently suggested that they reflect the duality of the spirit so often depicted in ancient art.
