Estremoz Rare Vintage Portuguese Clay Merchant Figurine Folk Art UNESCO Heritage For Sale

• Base Damage:The octagonal base shows visible wear and structural chipping along the edges, consistent with age and the fragile nature of terracotta.

• Paint Integrity:There is significant age-related flaking and paint loss on the figure\'s clothing (red/orange areas), exposing the lighter clay underneath.

• Surface Grime:Heavy accumulation of dust and \"shelf patina\" is present in the deep folds of the ruffled collar and the brim of the hat.

• Structural State:Despite the base wear, the figure itself is well-preserved; the delicate weights in the hand and the handle of the clay jug remain unbroken.

This authenticBoneco de Estremozis a hand-modeled terracotta figurine from the Alentejo region of Portugal, a craft recognized byUNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. This specific piece depicts a traditional rural merchant or water carrier, carrying a large clay vessel in one hand and a set of trade weights in the other.

Crafted with the characteristic folk-art proportions of the Estremoz tradition, the figure features a wide-brimmed hat, a detailed ruff collar, and a vibrant, dotted base. While the piece exhibits the honest patina of a vintage item—including notable paint crazing and flaking—it remains a rare and culturally significant example of European folk pottery.
