This ultra-rare neon back bar sign is in extremely good condition.
The 12.25” x 7" deeply etched thick glass has no scratches or chips. It reads "Eichler’s Beer Since 1862" and there's a rendering of the Eichler eagle and a hops adorned “E” crest.
The white neon tube that provides the edge lighting is in great condition with no hotspots.
The 16.25" wide 3.25" deep x 3.5" high riveted all-metal screen printed art-deco plinth is in great condition and is a work of art in my opinion. It has 2 drops of paint spatter on it that could easily be removed as seen on the photos. It is marked "This Sign is The Property Of The JOHN EICHLER BREWING COMPANY New York N.Y. Designed and Manufactured By The ATLANTIC NEON COMPANY"
The bottom of the base appears to be fiberboard and original with no sign of water damage or transformer leakage.
The cord has been professionally replaced at some point in this survivor’s history with a 14 AWG 3-prong power cord.
I have never opened this beauty up - so I can’t say much about the transformer other than it works and is quiet.
The rotating power switch appears original and works as expected.
Overall clearance height is 10.5", the width is 16.25" and the overall depth is about 5.25" including the protruding power cord and power switch.
I believe this sign to possibly date back to the 1930's due to its design and components. The John Eichler brewery in The Bronx was in business until 1946, when it was acquired by Rheingold.
I strongly recommend having it professionally packed by UPS Pack & Ship due to its great original condition and obviously breakable design. Alternately, pickup is available in the DFW TX metroplex.
