Edward A. Holbrooke
Original 19th Century Clipped Signature
Circa 1840s–1870s
Offered here is an authentic clipped signature of Edward A. Holbrooke (1818 to 1875), an American lawyer and government administrator who worked on maritime and commercial legal matters during the mid nineteenth century. Holbrooke was active in Boston legal circles and later contributed to state and federal administrative work involving customs, trade regulation, and public correspondence.
Holbrooke produced a large body of written material during his career. His surviving signatures are recognizable for their broad capital E, connected A, tall H, and the flowing “Holbrooke” ending that appears on this example. This piece was carefully removed from a period document and preserved on its original slip of nineteenth century paper.
The clipping is clean and displays bold ink with natural aging. It is ideal for collectors of nineteenth century Americana, legal history, or government correspondence.
