Early Vintage Lorenzo JET Tobacco Pipe / Lot #648:
$41.95

This is a early vintage briar tobacco pipe stamped with "JET" This stamp indicates it is a Jet Pipe (also referred to as "Jet" or "Jet Pipe" in collector discussions), an Italian-made brand from the mid-20th century. These pipes were manufactured by the Italian pipemaker Lorenzo and is the Lorenzo pipe factory. Specifically designed for the U.S. distributor Mastercraft during the 1960s. Jet Pipes emerged in the 1940s, inspired by innovative designs like the "sparkless" Zeppelin pipe, featuring vertical top-loading bowls for easier packing while maintaining a slender profile. They were marketed toward the growing aerospace and aviation themes of the era. The pipe's rusticated (textured, bark-like) finish on the bowl is typical of mid-century Italian briar pipe, emphasizing durability and heat resistance. See photos for more description and the condition. This is considered a classic dry tobacco smoking pipe. Approximate Specifications: Bowl and shank: Mediterranean briar wood (rusticated finish, dark brown stain). Stem: Vulcanite (black ebonite rubber, slightly translucent). Shape: Billiard/Dublin hybrid—tapered, oval bowl with a slight upward curve, long straight shank for a balanced smoke. Finish: Rusticated rough, carved texture on bowl for grip; smooth-polished shank transition; no visible sandblasting. Mount: Half saddle stem (flared at the base for comfort); single silver-like metal band (possibly nickel or aluminum) at the stem-shank junction to reinforce and add style. Approximate Size/Dimensions: - Overall length: Approximately 5.5 inches (14 cm).- Bowl height: ~1.5 inches (3.8 cm).- Bowl diameter (outer): ~1.25 inches (3.2 cm).- Chamber diameter: ~0.75 inches (1.9 cm).- Chamber depth: ~1.25 inches (3.2 cm).- Weight: ~1.2–1.5 oz (34–42 g) (lightweight for extended sessions). Drilling/Airway: Standard 9mm filter optional airway; straight bore from stem to chamber bottom (flush-drilled for efficient draw, typical of Italian engineering). Stampings/Markings - "JET" stamped on the left side of the shank. Possible additional faint stamps: "Italy" and "Imported Briar" on the bottom or right shank Mastercraft imports; No shape number or grade (pre-1970s style). Other Details: Designed for aromatic or English tobaccos; top-loading chamber eases packing. Era-specific: Post-WWII Italian briar, pre-1970s (no modern acrylic stem or laser engraving). These specs align with 1960s Jet Pipes. Very collectible among many mid to high level Italian briar enthusiasts.
