Early Antique 1870s MC Lilley Knights of Pythias Sword Named WH Nichols FCB Ohio:
$159.99

Product Overview

Up for sale is a highly collectible, authentic antique Knights of Pythias Fraternal Ceremonial Sword. This beautiful post-Civil War era piece was manufactured by the renowned M.C. Lilley & Co. out of Columbus, Ohio.

What sets this particular piece apart is the rare, early maker's stamp on the ricasso. It features the pristine stamping of "M.C. Lilley & Co.", which dates the production of this blade strictly between 1865 and 1881. Following 1881, the company permanently changed its stamping format to read "The M.C. Lilley & Co.", making this an early and highly sought-after variant from the golden era of American fraternal history.

Furthermore, this sword boasts excellent historical provenance, featuring the original owner's name, "W. H. Nichols", elegantly etched directly into the center panel of the blade.

Key Features & Symbolism:

• Blade Maker's Mark: Deeply stamped "M.C. Lilley & Co. Columbus O." on the lower blade.

• Personalized Engraving: Named to member W. H. Nichols surrounded by beautiful classical scrollwork.

• Ornate Crossguard: Displays the signature Order Knights of Pythias symbols, including the central shield featuring a knight in full armor flanked by the letters F - C - B (standing for Friendship, Charity, and Benevolence).

• Hilt Elements: The side crossguards feature ornate shields with the letters K (left) and P (right).

• Pommel & Grip: Topped with the classic cast-metal Knight’s Head helmet pommel and includes the original decorative knuckle-guard hanging chain linking to the crossguard. The handle features a beautifully aged ribbed texture wrapped in brass wire.

• Approximate Dimensions are 38" in overall length with a 1/2" to 1" tappered blade.

Even with NO Scabbard included, this extraordinary early example will display beautifully for many years to come and be a focal point and great addition to any collection!
