Beautiful early American schoolgirl sampler on linen, featuring floral urns and faint alphabet stitching. Signed and dated in thread by Helen M. Woodhull – 1838. Likely made as part of a young lady’s needlework education. Displayed in a later professional black frame under glass.

About the artist:Helen M. Woodhull of Wading River, NY made this sampler in 1838, when she was approximately 16 years of age. The sampler is in good condition and is an excellent example of early American needlework. Helen Woodhull later married, becoming Helen Woodhull Corwin, and lived in the Wading River area until she passed away in 1885. She is buried in the Baiting Hollow Cemetery in Baiting Hollow, NY.
