In the mid-1930\'s until sometime n 1941, EMD relied on the General Motors Styling Group, commonly referred to as the Art & Colour Section, the create the paint schemes for the new EMD diesel electric locomotives. The two most known stylists were Leland Knickerbocker and Paul Meyer.
Each railroad went through multiple iterations of paint schemes and when GM felt that the railroad was close to making a decision, commissioned an official painting of the selected paint scheme.
This paint scheme was NEVER USED by the Northern Pacific RR as they elected to use the \"Pine Tree\" paint scheme.I have no idea where the original painting of this ended up but I can almost certainly tell you that this painting is unknown to the public. This is an original photo, most likely created either by EMD or GM\'s Photographic Department. There are no other copies.
Photo measures 20\" x 10\".
