In the 1940’s & 1950’s it was not uncommon for EMD topurchase the cover of Railway Age magazine. In the later part of the 1950’s, EMDmoved their advertisement account from the Kudner Agency in New York to the MarstellerAgency in Chicago.
As such, one of the first ad campaigns that Marsteller undertook was titled,“Men Who Build the Future of American Railroads”. These ads featured a portraitof a prominent member of an individual railroad with a Marsteller artist creating abackground that featured EMD locomotives. I was able to ascertain that each ad featured a railroad provided photographic company portrait to EMD.
A brief insert detailing the contributions made by each featuredindividual or notable quotes were added to the Railway Age cover as an overlay.
Besides being used as a Railway Age cover, these were alsoused in various train related publications, as well as in financialpublications like the Wall Street Journal, but in a B&W configuration.
This listing is for an NOS (new old stock) ad proof asprovided to EMD by Marsteller. It features Patrick B. McGinnis, President of the Boston & Maine Railroad. It was published on the cover of Railway Age Magazine on October 20, 1958.
You will receive both the B&W as well as the color advertisements.
Please note that the Railway Age proof has a fold line sothat it would fit into a manilla folder. All the B&W ads were smaller and werenot folded. They’ve been stored inside a manilla folder since the 1950\'s.
I will ship this via the USPS.
