Back in the late 1930\'s, EMC decided to design a diesel locomotive that would operate in a freight environment. No small task as previously EMC only built switchers and passenger locomotives.
In order to gain acceptance, EMC built an FT model demonstrator, road number FT-103. It went on to demonstrate all across the USA racking up 83,000 miles.
Once the demonstration was completed, EMC sales guys were tasked with selling the new product. They produced 2 different sales catalogs, one in soft cover, the other in hard cover.
I\'m EMD retired and I was told by another long standing EMD retiree, who spoke with one of the original sales folks. He stated that only 50 copies of the hard cover books were created. I personally have seen maybe around 8 in the past 40 years.
