E.J. Towle Sterling Silver Rosary Cuff Blessed Mother St Christopher St Therese:
$675.00

A working rosary you can wear. The raised silver beads encircling this E.J. Towle cuff are not decorative — each bead is an Our Father, a Hail Mary, and a Glory Be designed to be counted by touch through prayer, the way a traditional rosary is counted by hand. This is a wearable devotional, fully functional for the practice it was made to serve.

Solid sterling silver. 34 grams. Hallmarked .925. Hand-struck by E.J. Towle, the respected mid-century American ecclesiastical silversmith.

The Iconography
Three sculptural medallions anchor the cuff: the Blessed Mother in serene relief; St. Christopher, patron saint of travelers, soldiers, and the safe return of those who carry their faith into the world; and St. Thérèse of Lisieux — the "Little Flower" — Doctor of the Church and one of the most beloved saints among Catholic women. The rose-vine relief surrounding the medallions is St. Thérèse's own iconographic symbol, tied to her promise to "let fall a shower of roses" from heaven after her death. A continuous beaded border frames the entire piece — and these are not decorative beads, but functional rosary counters, each one a Hail Mary intended to be prayed by touch.

The Soldier's Rosary

The cuff's interior carries a feature collectors prize: blank, hand-struck fields forName,Type Blood, andSocial No.This identifies the piece as a mid-century soldier's devotional cuff — a Catholic protective tradition that paired the Blessed Mother,St. Thérèse of Lisieux, and St. Christopher with the practical identification a service member needed to carry into the field. The fields on this example remain entirely unengraved — a clean slate, never personalized, equally suited to preservation as a collector's piece or to engraving with a recipient's own information.

The Hallmark "Fingerprint"

Of particular note to specialists: the interior hallmark is rare inverted and double-struck. The upside-down orientation and slight blurring of theSterlingmark are documented mid-century production quirks — the artisanal fingerprint of hand-struck origin. Close-up photograph provided.

Marked "PATENTED" with the E.J. Towle crossed pick-and-shovel maker's mark — indicating production after the patent was granted, dating this piece to the late 1940s through 1950s.

A Resonant Gift for May

May is the Month of Mary in the Catholic calendar. Mother's Day, May Crowning, adult First Communion (RCIA), Confirmation, and the Feast of the Visitation all fall within these few weeks. A 34-gram sterling Marian rosary cuff is a rare gift that meets this season at the level it deserves — an heirloom, not a token.

Especially suited for:

  • A devout mother who prefers a wearable devotional to a traditional rosary
  • A veteran or Catholic military family who values the soldier's-rosary lineage
  • Confirmation, RCIA, or May Crowning recipients
  • Collectors of mid-century American ecclesiastical silver
