This is a vintage Dunhill Rollagas lighter in 18-carat solid yellow gold – and I mean solid 18-carat gold, not gold-plated or gold-laminated – featuring a two-tone finish in yellow and white gold. It is a classic, striking piece of excellent craftsmanship, dating from the 1970s.
When I say solid gold, I mean that the entire exterior is a thick layer of gold, with a total weight (of 18k gold) probably around 23–24 grams out of a total of 92.8 grams (it should also be noted that the four sides of the original gold-plated lighter were sanded down to round them off, resulting in a loss of approximately 2–4 grams.. ).
The lighter is practically NEW; it may never have been used. It has certainly been stored in a safe for 50 years, bears not a single mark, is truly beautiful and looks as good as new, and, what’s more, is truly charming in its overall appearance, with this ‘luxury’ finish, known as ‘basketweave’, which was carried out entirely by hand and is a goldsmith’s work of the very highest calibre.
This lighter has just been serviced, having been out of use for fifty years, with the valve completely replaced and a general check carried out – a service that will ensure it works well for years and years to come.
I believe that similar lighters of this kind would retail for at least 8,000 euros when new, and at least 3,000 euros second-hand… see for yourself.
I guarantee 100 per cent that the exterior is made with a thick layer of 18-carat solid gold.
