Overview
The de Havilland DH.90 Dragonfly was a twin-engined luxury touring biplane. In 1936 seven Dragonfly airframes were shipped to Canada and erected by de Havilland Canada, and several served the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, whose aircraft were used against rum runners. CF-MPD was registered on June 26, 1937 to the RCMP in Ottawa, named \"Dandelion,\" and fitted with Gipsy Major engines.
In August 1938 the aircraft was traded in to Noorduyn Aviation against a Noorduyn Norseman and re-registered CF-BPD that December. As CF-BPD it was written off on takeoff at Edmonton on April 13, 1943, while flying for Canadian Pacific Air Lines. The RCMP markings therefore date this photograph to roughly mid-1937 through 1938. The verso carries the stamp of photographer Al. Malone of Woodside, N.Y.What to Know
