This handsome three-dimensional brachiopod fossil displays the broad, wing-shaped shell and strongly defined radiating ribs characteristic of Cyrtospirifer. It measures approximately 2.7 inches across and makes an appealing, easily displayed example of Devonian marine life.
The accompanying identification card attributes it to Cyrtospirifer rudkinensis from the Voronezh Region of Russia. This species is associated with the Frasnian portion of the Devonian Period and is approximately 370 million years old. The card uses the spelling “rudkinense”; the generally accepted scientific spelling is “rudkinensis.”
