COLUMBIA STUDIO
Little Lost Sheep(1939)
original production animation drawing
red and black pencil on untrimmed 10.25" x 12" animation sheet, image size: 4" x 4.75"
This original final animation drawing of the Wolf carrying off the kidnapped lamb Genevieve was created by a Columbia Studio animator in production of the animated cartoon, and a cel painting was made directly from it. Krazy Kat, the feline character from George Herriman's famous comic strip of the same name, was the main star of Columbia cartoons of the 1930s. In this cartoon he plays a Sherlock Holmes-like detective who tracks down and rescues Bo Peep's kidnapped sheep from a Wolf. Krazy Kat comes upon the Wolf (in sheep's clothing) and Genevieve on their picnic, and the detective's two dogs lay into the villain. The Wolf escapes, scoops of Genevieve and, in this scene, runs to his car.
The animator wrote the studio designation “3” at lower right to indicate this original's place in the scene. Our certificate of authenticity is included.
The paper has mildly darkened with age; there are light rippling and mild discoloration at lower left from exposure to moisture (drawing is unaffected); corner tip at upper right is off: VERY GOOD+ condition.
