Fantastic old chalkware statue of a Native American Indian holding a stack of tobacco leaves made in the early-mid 20th century as a tobacco store display or perhaps as a carnival prize.
The cigar store Indian statue is made of solid chalkware (plaster) and hand-painted in vivid colors with excellent sculptural detail. The colors are still rich and vibrant even though it dates from the 1930's-50's. The statue depicts a Native American Indian in a fringed buckskin coat and pants wearing a high and tight feathered headdress. The base of the statue is inscribed with a maker's mark that looks like "SNS" (see close-up photo). The bottom of the base is covered in grey felted cloth.
It measures 17.5" tall by 5" wide by 5" deep, and weighs 3.25 lbs.
The chalkware has some minor cracks and finish chips but nothing is damaged. There's a finish line crack on his neck, but it is just cosmetic and not a repair nor a sign of previous damage. A rare and hard to find cigar store Indian statue for your tobacco shop, mancave or collection.
