This rare, high-concept artwork celebrates the ancientChinese Four Symbolsfeaturing the Four Auspicious Beasts fused with heavy construction machinery. This modern openwork enamel medallion set remigine the classical Si Xiang guardians as working machines in a matte teal shadow-box frame.
Collectors and interior designers seek pieces like this because they deliver a rare, high-concept collision of ancient Chinese cosmology and contemporary industrial power. The result is a conversation piece that reads equally well in an executive construction office, Asian modern living space, or maximalist gallery wall.
Four gold-outlined circular openwork medallions are mounted in a rectangular matte teal frame with clear protective panel. Each medallion is labeled in gold Chinese characters and paired with a fine gold-tone chain and custom charm that hangs freely below the frame.
Each of the four openwork medallions represents a corner of the sky, anchored by a vibrant, multi-layered color palette and accompanied by a corresponding hanging charm:
- Qing Long (Azure Dragon of the East): Emerald and turquoise scaled dragon intertwined with a yellow hydraulic crawler excavator and black bucket, rising over multi-toned blue waves beneath a vermilion sun. Charm: geometric four-petaled flower disc.
- Bai Hu (White Tiger of the West): Pure white roaring tiger with black stripes leaping across a yellow industrial mining/piling rig, framed by teal floral branches and orange blossoms. Charm: five-petaled plum blossom with radiating center.
- Zhu Que (Vermilion Bird of the South): Fiery red-orange and gold phoenix soaring above a yellow articulated wheel loader, set against peony blossoms, pine branches, and stylized clouds. Charm: double-fan/cloud form.
- Xuan Wu / Dark Dragon of the North: Powerful navy-blue dragon wrapping a yellow asphalt paver/tracked construction vehicle amid crashing blue-and-white waves. Charm: abstract flame/wave form.
Premium Framing & Presentation Flexibility
The openwork technique uses bright gold-tone plated base metal filled with vibrant hard enamel. Colors remain sharp and opaque: safety yellow machinery, emerald scales, pure white tiger, vermilion peonies and phoenix, deep navy waves. Small triangular logos appear on the machines (stylized, not OEM marks).
Frame measures approximately the size of a standard long rectangular shadow box and includes a folding easel back for tabletop or mantel display plus a dark red mounting cord for wall hanging. When hung, the four chains and charms move freely. Original satin-lined presentation box with gold-trimmed base and red ribbon is included.
Condition Report: Good to Excellent Condition.Enamel is smooth, chip-free, and unfaded. Gold plating is bright with no tarnish. All four chains and charms are fully attached and intact. Frame is structurally sound with clean corners. The clear protective panel shows only minor surface scratches typical of display pieces; these do not affect the medallions or metalwork.
