Original 19th-century autograph panel signed “Langdale”, addressed to Edwᵈ Magrath Esq, Athenaeum—almost certainly referring to The Athenaeum Club, Pall Mall, London. The signature is that of Charles Langdale (1787–1868), noted Whig politician, reformer, and advocate of Catholic emancipation, who was a prominent member of the club.
Langdale served as MP for Beverley and Knaresborough and was a key ally of Lord John Russell. His signature is uncommon outside formal correspondence.
