Description: What could be a more appropriate subject than boxing for a card series by the makers of ‘Knock-Out’ razor blades? That is precisely what the well-known Sheffield firm of F.C. Cartledge Ltd. had in mind when they issued their series of fifty Famous Prize Fighters. In recent years this has become a classic among collectors and has become quite scarce. It covers the sport in considerable depth, from the bare-knuckle champs of the 18th century like John Broughton and Tom Cribb through to the great names of the 1930s such as Jack Dempsey, Tommy Farr and Joe Louis. The pictures are either black and white drawings or matt photographs with first class text on the backs. This set contains the scarce No. 23, but in addition was available as a part set of 49 out of 50 (minus No. 23)– please check our website for availability. In 1939 two cards were issued featuring Eric Boon and Arthur Danahar, but confusingly these were numbered 13 and 19 so perhaps were intended to replace those numbers in the set. These are a must for any boxing fan.
