Martinka Template Carter the Great – Mike Caveney
Carter the Great by Mike Caveney is one of the major biographies in magic literature, and this copy has a particularly strong connection to Martinka history.
Charles Carter purchased Martinka & Co. in 1917 and operated the company for a period before returning to touring. When Mike Caveney was researching this book in the 1990s, he was given access to the Martinka archives, which helped document Carter’s years with the company.
Caveney follows Carter through seven world tours, massive stage productions, business triumphs, disasters, and his dealings with many of the great magicians of the era. Jamy Ian Swiss called it an extraordinarily thorough biography and praised both the depth of the research and the remarkable color reproductions of Carter’s surviving posters.
For anyone interested in Carter, Golden Age stage magic, or the history of Martinka, this is an important reference.
See you on the next one, Ted
