Large handmade Carpenters Union patch memory quilt / wallhanging measuring approximately 88" x 88".
This unusual quilt came from a local carpenters union andappears to have been created as a commemorative piece celebrating union localsand trades throughout the Pacific Northwest and surrounding states.
The quilt incorporates a large collection ofauthentic-looking embroidered union patches and individually made localidentification blocks representing Carpenters, Millwrights, Shipwrights, PileDrivers and other affiliated trades.
Represented locations include Portland, Eugene, Bend,Astoria and Klamath Falls, Oregon; Seattle, Spokane, Vancouver, Olympia, Rentonand other Washington communities; along with locals from Montana, Idaho andWyoming.
Several patches commemorate important union anniversaries,including 100-year celebrations dating through 2000.
Especially prominent is the large Carpenters Local Union#247 Portland, Oregon patch featuring Mount Hood, the Portland skyline androse.
One lower panel is signed, possibly by the quilt's maker ora contributor. The signature has not been identified.
