knife is a 1st Design WWII U.S. Navy Mark 2 Utility Knife (USN MK2), manufactured by the Camillus Cutlery Company between early 1943 and mid-1943
The Screw-On Pommel: The end pommel (butt cap) is secured by a circular threaded nut. Camillus only used this system on their very first run of MK2 production. Because it proved weak under hard field use and costly to make, the military ordered a redesign. By late 1943, Camillus switched permanently to a pinned flat tang pommel.
