Lane\'s Redwood was a private vacation camp in the early 20th Century. The Lane family bought their land as a means to help protect the giant redwood which were (and continue to be) under threat.
The mailbag has a leather bottom and leather closing strips and ties. The bag itself is a lightweight cotton stamped with the logo:U.S. Mail from Lane\'s Redwood on one side only.
Inside are 8 small black and white photographs (2.75\" x 1.75\"). Each photograph has the location written on it somewhere as well as a copyright symbol, a number, and the name \"Patterson.\" The photographer is Frank Patterson, a well known photographer in California in the early 20th Century. Some of these photos can be found on line in collections of his work.
This souvenir is from the 1930s and has never been used for anything. The photographs are in pristine condition. The bag is fairly clean and still white and the leather parts unbent and unused. The 2 little leather straps are still hanging inside the bag.
