This antique postcard features Commercial Ave in Cairo IL, southeast from 9th Street. The arch in the middle was known as Hustler's Arch, and according to Google, the arch was used to hang banners for celebrations and parades. However, it was also the site of extreme racial violence, where Will "Froggie" James was lynched in late 1909.Posted.
