The movement varied and the term was adopted by architects and artists
over the next several decades. Brutalism embodied several key elements.A sense of rawness. Exposed or unfinished materials and visual weight
and presence. In general, brutalist art and buildings express no effort in
trying to look comfortable or delicate. They are defiant and not compliant.Curtis Jere was a major force in mid century metal art
and this is one of his scarce table lilies in driftwood sculptures.This one is *EXTRA* special because the wood used was
lightning struck wood - which gives it great visual contrasts
and also (some believe) special properties imbued
by the lightning struck wood! In lore, lightning wood
has transformative properties used in magic and for good fortune!Here, with this brutalist sculpture the raw metal elements are each cut, softened, colored by heat and inserted into the driftwood!
