CODEX VATICANUS New Testament 4TH Cent NOMINA SACRA JEHOVAH Watchtower hardbound:
$159.99

This is an extremely rare beautiful facsimile of the 4th Century"Vatican Manuscript (Codex Vaticanus)", designated internationally by the symbol “B,” is an uncial codex of the fourth century C.E., possibly produced in Alexandria, and it originally contained the entire Bible in Greek. Codex Vaticanus is preserved at the Vatican Library in Rome, Italy, and is known to have been there as early as the 15th century. However, Vatican Library authorities made access to the manuscript extremely difficult for scholars and did not publish a full photographic facsimile of the New Testament until 1868. This Codex was used as the basis for the Wescott and Hort Greek Manuscript used by Jehovah's Witnesses in the New World Translation {As well as the Kingdom Interlinear}. What is extremely noteworthy is the use of the Nomina Sacra {SACRED NAME} for God's Name as well as other Divine Names. In the first couple of centuries after Christ certain Divine names where abbreviated namely God and Lord at first [later there were over a dozen different Divine Names as the foretold apostasy progressed]. Lord or Kyrios was KY with a line above it noting it as a Nomina Sacra. What is noteworthy is the original Septuagint has the Tetragrammaton or YHWH {A hebrew abbreviation of a sort since they only wrote in consonants} whereas later Christian Septuagint had replaced it with Kyrios {LORD}. However at first is was written as KY with the line above it. WHY? Could it be because they saw the original name as YHWH but did not have any Greek equivalent and thus substituted Lord by giving it KY. The reasons they did this are unknown but they may have tried to hide the NAME from certain ones who had tried to destroy YHWH when they found it in the writings of the Gospels as noted by certain historians {See the Appendix on the Divine Name in the New Testament in the New World Translation 2013 edition}. For example the persecution against Christians took off from 160 C.E. to 313 C.E. and corresponds exactly with the occurance of theNomina Sacra during those years of persecution when Jews and others tried to burn all books by the Christian "sect" of Judaism. But when Christianity became a "state religion" {catholic} in 313 C.E. the reason to hide the NAME no longer existed and the apostasy eclipsedthe name for many centuries thereafter. Anyway we now know that JEHOVAH {YHWH} was there in the original manuscripts before and during the time of Christ as the Dead Sea Scrolls and Septuagint clearly show.
This is a 4th century Greek manuscript of the Bible. One of the four great Uncials (the other three are Codex Sinaiticus,Ephraemi and Alexandrinus). The Codex is named after its place of conservation in the Vatican Library, where it has been kept since at least the 15th century. It is written on 759 leaves of vellum in uncial letters and has been dated palaeographically to the 4th century. The manuscript became known to Western scholars as a result of correspondence between Erasmus and the prefects of the Vatican Library. Portions of the codex were collated by several scholars, but numerous errors were made during this process. The Codex's relationship to the Latin Vulgate was unclear and scholars were initially unaware of the Codex's value. This changed in the 19th century when transcriptions of the full codex were completed. It was at that point that scholars realized the text differed significantly from the Vulgate and the Textus Receptus. Most current scholarship considers the Codex Vaticanus to be one of the best Greek texts of the New Testament, with the Codex Sinaiticus as its only competitor. Until the discovery by Tischendorf of the Sinaiticus text, the Codex was unrivaled. It was extensively used by Westcott and Hort in their edition of The New Testament in the Original Greek in 1881. The most widely sold editions of the Greek New Testament are largely based on the text of the Codex Vaticanus Thus the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures in restoring the Divine Name to the Bible have much evidence that the Tetragrammaton was in the First Century original autographs of the New Testament Scriptures. {Jewish Christians would have never removed the Tetragrammaton when quoting from the Old Testament, butdecades later during "Translations" by Gentile Christians they would not have been so careful about retaining the Tetragrammaton since they did not write in Hebrew or would have retained their cultural identityas the Jewish Christians did}.
The existence of nomina sacra KY is proof that the Tetragrammaton was in the original NT autographs since Codex Marchalianus shows in the margins that KY stood for YHWH!!![This very beautiful and rare facsimile of this codex can be put in a museum display as mine is or used for research. Measurements are 10 x 8 x 1 inches]
