Brochantite Crystals | Douglas Hill Mine, Yerington, Nevada - Gemmy Green Prisms For Sale

A beautiful specimen consisting several pockets of gemmy, emerald green prismatic crystals of brochantite on a nicely contrasting iron oxide matrix. Some of the crystals are double terminated and up to 3mm. There are also acicular groups of brochantite microcrystals present.

The Douglas Hill Mine is a copper mine located in northern Smith Valley in Lyon County, Nevada. It started production in 1911 on a large oxidized copper skarn deposit and consists of a number of open pits connected to haulage tunnels that exit at the western side of Douglas Hill. Brochantite from this mine has been known since Adolph Knopf\'s professional paper on the district for the US Geological Survey. Many finds were made into the 1990\'s when the main stope producing the best brochantite allegedly collapsed.
