The pipe presents as a bent billiard: a round, straight-walled bowl set on a shank that curves downward before meeting the stem, rather than running out level as it does on a straight billiard. The bend changes how the pipe sits in the hand and in the mouth - it drops the bowl's weight below the jaw line rather than out in front of it, which is why bent shapes are generally favored for pipes meant to be gripped by the teeth for long stretches rather than held by hand.
