1. The Archaeological Artifact: Paleo CrescentsIn Far West archaeology, crescents are highly distinctive stone tools associated with the Western Stemmed Tradition and occasionally found alongside late Clovis caches. [1, 2, 3]

The Wetland Connection: Spatial analysis of crescent-bearing sites in Washington, Oregon, and the Great Basin shows that roughly 99% of crescents are found within 10 kilometers of ancient, reconstructed paleoshorelines and wetland habitats. [1]

Function: Their exact use is heavily debated by archaeologists. Hypotheses include:

Transverse Projectile Points: Mounted sideways on darts or arrows to hunt waterfowl along the Pacific Flyway.
Processing Tools: Serving as specialized, curved knives to harvest or slice aquatic plants like tule rushes. [1, 2, 3]

Famous Local Sites: They have been excavated at iconic Pacific Northwest sites like the Lind Coulee site in eastern Washington and the Marmes Rockshelter. [1, 2]

This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of Pacific Northwest history with ironclad, provenance.
I will continue to list many points from my personal collection over the next several weeks. Most of my collection consists of artifacts that I purchased over the past 25 years from reputable dealers, since I became a member of in 1997. I examine the artifacts carefully when I receive them and return any that I think have questionable authenticity. Will combine shipping on multiple items if you wait until you get an invoice from me.
